A Year Worth Celebrating

This past Monday, Jennifer and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We had some great food and conversation at deSha's and then sipped on a White Mocha Cappuccino from Starbuck's during the drive home. We are thankful to her parents, who watched Noah and enabled us to go out for a couple of hours.

In some ways it is hard to believe that it has already been a year since I saw my beautiful bride walk down the aisle, but in other ways it's hard to remember who I was or how I was ever happy before we came together.

She is a daily reminder of God's grace and mercy. Less than two years ago we were both praying to God that he would send us someone, telling him that we were ready to be married, but in despair because there were no likely candidates in sight.

Much has changed in a short time. Jennifer sold her house, moved to a new city, took a new job, a new church, is now married to a man that is in love with her, and to top it off, she has a baby (something we totally would not have expected at this point!). She gave up a lot and risked a lot for me, and I am thankful for that. I think that she is thankful as well.

Two years after worrying, we are both resting in God's providence and remembering that we should never have doubted his faithfulness.

I am amazed by Jennifer on a regular basis. She is a good mother. She works very hard and sacrifices a lot for the good of our son. There is little reward for getting up at 2am, 5am, and 8am to nurse a crying baby, but she is diligent nonetheless. Also, as a wife, she is so eager to let me lead her, guide her, and protect her. She trusts me, respects me, serves me, and loves me--sometimes I feel without reason. She hasn't read as many books or listened to as many sermons about Ephesians 5 and other passages on marriage, but at many times she obeys the Lord's teaching better than I. All this while being more beautiful and funny than I ever knew was possible.

Other than the Lord granting me repentance and salvation, Jennifer is the greatest gift that he has ever given to me. For that I owe God my life...and he has commanded that I give my life for hers.

In summary, this has been the best year of my life.

P.S. And on top of all that, she got me two books (this one and that one) as a gift for our anniversary. Could she get any better? Yup...she's also already back to her pre-pregnancy weight! :o)

We kind of think Jennifer is rather special also! We also are pleased to have Wes in our family and , as parents, are joyous that a man like Wes has come into her life as her husband and as the father of her children, and our grandchildren. So, for us also, it has been a remarkable year!

Nick, it's a good thing you updated it. I was this close (I'm putting my index finger about 1 inch from my thumb) to buying you Chicken Soup for the Lonely College Man's Soul.

Now that I think about it, I guess it makes sense that you wouldn't want that anymore though. ;)

It does look like you have made some good additions to your list.

BTW, let me know what you think of the Keller book. I have it on my wishlist and plan on ordering it soon.
